ERV Boxscore for April 28, at St. Louis

How nutty is the game of baseball? Right now I'm thinking, "Thank God for Tony Armas", that's how crazy it is.

ERV Win: Nick Johnson (1-0)
ERV Loss: Jason Marquis

Three Most Valuable Plays:
(1) Dutch's HR in the 1st (1.71)
(2) Johnson's HR in the 1st (1.54)
(3) Soriano's single in the 3rd (0.84)

Tony Armas is to Frank Robinson as Rod Tidwell is to Jerry McGuire.

I really do love Tony Armas right now. The truth is that if Tony Armas was pitching this year the way he pitched last year, we would be in a lot of (or even more anyway) trouble. He deserves serious kudos and even though it has only been 5 games, with the pitching staff being what it is, the hope that Tony Armas has tunred a corner is the only bright light we have so far this year with our pitching.

His big issue right now is pitch counts, especially since he is coming back from a surgery. If he can continue pitching this way and find a way to be pushing 100 pitches after 7 or 7+ innings instead of 6, that will translate to fewer outs guys like Majewski, Stanton and Rodriguez have to get, which has to translate into at least a couple more wins.
